Nice to meet you!

I’m Cortney — better known as Cort. I split my time living in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Miami, Florida, with my husband and my rescue chihuahua, Brida. I have a degree in communication studies from the University of Michigan, where I also studied creative writing and screenwriting. I was a newspaper reporter for more than 11 years (until I opened my small business: three wine bars in southeastern Michigan). Besides being a small business owner, I previously was a regular contributor for Michigan Uncorked and Michigan Wine Country magazine, among other publications. In Fall 2023, I began working as a bookseller at my favorite bookstore, Books & Books in Coral Gables, Florida, and I’m so honored to be part of the team there.

As of Jan. 29, 2025, I am represented by Kimberly Witherspoon of InkWell Management and am preparing my fourth novel, STILL LIFE WITH DANDELIONS, for submission to publishers. It’s a contemporary upmarket family drama with elements of mystery/suspense and second-chance romance.

My poem “Song of the River Trail” appeared in GLOW: SELF-CARE POETRY FOR THE SOUL, a poetry anthology that came out in late June. My short story “Harrison’s for the Holidays” appears in A WINTER’S WARMTH, a collection of seasonal short stories published in December 2023.
